Global uncertainty is placing jitters through investment and financial markets. Although it is warming to read on a daily basis that volume is light many of the brokers are reporting that investors generally have a longer term view and with confidence in their portfolios they are prepared to ride the storm out rather that get out. Internationally we have seen some of the world’s smartest investors start to become active again. Warren Buffet seizing opportunity amongst a sea of uncertainty being the most comfortable sign of optimism in the future.
Similarly, some great opportunities are presenting themselves in the Hamilton commercial real estate market, albeit, for the smaller budget. The optimism in Hamilton should be equally bullish too. The city is expected to grow by 67% over the next 36 years. Couple this with New Zealand’s economic future being dependant on an export lead recovery – of which the Waikato will need to be a major contributor – and the city’s commercial real estate will be a major benefactor.
Our pick is that in five years time we may well be looking back viewing 2008 as the year that made the fortunes of many a commercial investor.
